Heritage Resource Management

CDS Inc. is committed to heritage conservation and responsible management of such resources. Working with the public and private sector throughout Alberta, CDS Inc. provides heritage consulting services for Heritage Surveys, Thematic Context Papers, Impact Assessments and Evaluations, Statements of Significance, Heritage Inventories, Heritage Management Plans, and the production of interactive templates that provide form-based process documentation and tools to formalize process, policies and procedures that lead to the designation of historic properties and appropriate heritage resource identification, conservation, and protection.

Main Street Consulting

CDS Inc. provides services to communities who wish to revitalize their historic main street areas, strategically explore short and long terms work plans to bring visions of revitalization to fruition, and explore funding sources, support systems, coordination, and a system of metric tracking to ensure accountability to all stakeholders. CDS Inc., with Merinda Conley, has an extensive background leading the Alberta Main Street Program, consulting to the Main Street Saskatchewan Program, and to The National Trust for Canada. CDS Inc. has an array of experience with downtown revitalization strategies, planning initiatives, and the application of the internationally accepted Main Street Four-Point Approach® to downtown revitalization. Such services extend across the disciplines of community organization, marketing and promotion, economic development and restructuring, and design and heritage conservation.

Illustration and Design

CDS Inc. provides a number of illustration, design, drafting and CAD services that complement its other services. These range from the graphic illustration of conceptual ideas and planning to a full range of design, drafting and CAD services for commercial main street facades, as-built plans, residential renovations, new home construction, and development and building permit requirements.

Public Engagement

CDS Inc., with Merinda Conley, is an arm of the Co-Design Group, having an extensive background and association with the late Stanley King in visioning and public engagement within the architectural disciplines of urban, rural and cultural development; urban revitalization; heritage; as well as youth engagement and sustainable design. Stanley King’s Co-Design process provides immense value to any public engagement practice that requires the need for a combination of graphic abilities, facilitation, architectural design, urban planning, freehand drawing, excellent communication skills and simply the ability to listen to those who wish to share their ideas about how they wish to live.
